Troop 407 April 2004 Newsletter


Theme for May is Canoeing
Weekly meetings will be as follows:
Week 1- Cover safety in canoeing, parts of canoe, etc.
2- How to do strokes, types of canoes and paddling.
3- Plan program for Webelos Camporee in May.
4-"Catch up day"-prepare for Court of Honor, which will be sometime in June.
5-Memorial Day-No Meeting

June 4-6, Canoe trip on Clarion River.
With this trip, you can earn the Canoeing Merit Badge if you already have Lifesaving. If you don't have Lifesaving, you can do everything else, and earn the badge after you get Lifesaving. Cost of the trip to be determined.

ATTENTION PLEASE- Candy money is due to Mary K. Benkart ASAP or no credit will be given!

April 12, Scouting For Food kick off.
Turn in food by April 17. Scouts encouraged to collect food from neighbors in their neighborhood.
Boxes for workplace donations are available for pickup at the troop meetings.

May 2, Recognition Dinner for Leaders at Monaca Turners. Social hour, 5 to 6 , dinner at 6.
Reservations due by April 23 with Louise Pinkerton, RD 1, Box 371, Beaver Falls PA 15010. Cost: $16 per person. Meal choices: Stuffed Chicken or Stuffed Pork Chop.
Make checks payable to GPC-BSA Acct # 1-6801-201-20.

May 14-16, Integrated Boy Scout Leader Training. Four leaders attending will be: Dr. Palguta, Dr. Kruczek, Sam Siple and Mark Smith. Participating as leaders in the training will Jud Herter, leading Troop Guide; and David Robinson, leading Backpacking, Troop Guide and other sessions.

May 21-23, Webelos Camporee. Scouts will staff Camporee and help out.

June 19, River Sweep. More info to follow.

BURGUNDY CHICKEN WITH RASPBERRY SAUCE

.

Marinate skinned/boned chicken breasts:
½ c. cooking oil
¼ c. soy sauce
½ tsp. pepper
1 c. burgundy wine or red cooking wine

Brown the marinated meat in the marinating mixture about 10 minutes on each side (or if sliced into small pieces only a few minutes).

Serve with the Raspberry Sauce:
Bring to a boil:
1 c. raspberry jelly or jam
½ c. water
3 Tsp. brown mustard
2 Tsp. soy sauce
1 Tsp. Worcestershire sauce
(if desired: salt, pepper, caraway seeds)
Serve Raspberry Sauce over the Chicken and a bed of Rice.

March 2004 News Letter

March 2004

March 15: Details coming on March Bowl-a-thon.

March 22: Heritage Deposits due for camp. This money -- $25 deposit -- must be in by March 22 to qualify for the Early Bird discount. Camp is July 18-24. Regular price is $170; Early Bird costs $160.

March 26-28: Annual Family Dinner at Camp Baker will be served at 5 p.m. Sat. March 27. All troop families are welcome to come and digest the scrumptious culinary exploits of our sons & leaders!

April Theme: Things That Fly & uniform inspection
April 1: Roundtable

April 5: TLC at 6 p.m.

April 7: Committee Meeting at 7:30 p.m. at the church.

April 12-21: Scouting for Food. We will collect food on April 17 to take to the Salvation Army on April 21.

April 19: Bike safety & rockets

April 23-25: Camporee at Moraine State Park—bike trip!

May 2 : Recognition Dinner at Monaca Turners, $16 per person. Reservations are due by April 21. See Jud Herter.

Candy fundraiser: Don’t forget that all candy $$$ is due before any credits will be given. Also, Shop N Save has given us some dates to sell this fundraiser. See Mr. Currie for days and times. You can earn extra money to help pay for camp.

Moving along: Ted Roman presented the results of his Eagle project, repairing the Chippewa Township Park baseball bleachers, to the Committee. With just a few more Merit Badges, we’ll have another Eagle Scout from our troop

February News letter

FEB 2004


TLC: Meeting was held at 6 p.m. on Feb. 2. Attending: Ted Roman, Brennan Currie, Alex Lonnett, Todd Benkart. All officers should attend these meetings at 6 p.m. the first Monday of each month in the church.

Committee Meeting: Larry Harkins, George Phillips, Pat Currie, Jud Herter, Mark Benkart, Shaan Elsman, Mary K. Benkart, Tracy McCoy

February Theme: Survival
Guyasuta: This campout is scheduled for Feb. 27, 28, 29 (cabin camping)

Family Campout Dinner: The date has been changed and will be announced later.

Court of Honor: 7:30 p.m. March 1.

IMPORTANT PARENTS AND SCOUTS:
Board of Reviews: Each scout was given guidelines for Board of Reviews. Please look over these guidelines with your son and sign them. We will follow this protocol very closely.

Camp Heritage: Early Bird deposit of $25 is due March 15. Total cost of this weeklong camp is $170, with a discount of $10 if paid on time. Camp dates: July 18 – July 24.

Fundraiser: We will sell Anderson Candy Bars at $1 each with a bag of $30. Your profit is $15/bag. This is a great way to help pay for summer camp. Lisa Currie will line up dates to sell at Shop N Save. We will announce these to the Scouts at their regular meetings. Only 2 bags are permitted to be taken at a time. When two bags are paid for, you may get more from the Benkarts. Please call ahead of time and we will be happy to bring them to the meeting.

BSA Scout Books: EACH AND EVERY SCOUT: It is important that we have all updated information from your books. PLEASE BRING YOUR BOOKS TO THE FEB 16 MEETING.

Troop 407

Ready to Fly
CJ Campbell completed his Eagle requirements and will have an Eagle Board of Review soon. Congratulations, CJ!

Relaxed look
Troop bylaws were amended on Jan. 5. A Class B uniform will be implemented.

Looking ahead
The troop hopes to get to Philmont in 2005 and is on the waiting list.

Jan. Theme- Winter Sports
Jan. 12, Prepare for campout and mall show
Jan 16-17 and 18, Winter Camporee at Camp Twin Echo. The Theme will be winter sports. Troop 407 will run the All Faith Service. Meet at the church at 6 p.m. on the 16th.
Jan. 19, Clean up camp equipment and talk about the Mall Show.
Jan. 26: Discuss Mall Show and prepare for ski trip
Jan. 31, Ski trip to Seven Springs. Meet at the church at 7 a.m.
